ZERO-WASTE TRAINING WAS CARRIED OUT FOR STUDENTS IN BODRUM

As part of the zero-waste education programme, the Bodrum Municipality carried out comprehensive awareness-raising activities targeting primary, secondary, and high school students.

The Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate ran a Zero Waste Education programme to help students develop environmental awareness and adopt sustainable lifestyle habits. As part of the programme, which took place during the second semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, training was provided to 1,400 students from 14 schools. Additionally, 225 students from seven primary schools who wished to visit the Waste Collection Centre were given a tour of the facility.
During training sessions led by environmental technicians Filiz Hekimoğlu and Zeynep Uyar Yabacı, students learnt about the collection, sorting and recycling processes for mixed packaging waste. The potential environmental harm caused by hazardous waste, used batteries, electrical and electronic waste, used cooking oil and expired medications when mixed with regular trash was discussed in detail. Students were also shown how the 14 different waste categories at the Bodrum Municipality’s Class 1 Waste Drop-off Centre, where residents can sort and drop off their waste, are collected and recycled.
A total of 1,525 sink filters were distributed to students who participated in the zero-waste training to raise awareness of water and energy conservation.
Although the current training programme has finalised. Although if schools submit requests for zero-waste training to the District Directorate of National Education, training sessions may continue at schools and at the First-Class Waste Collection Centre until the end of the academic year.
